Set to deliver interactive strategic discussions on the biggest IT transformation challenges facing government leaders today, the panels at the ModernGOV summit will bring together visionaries and leading technologists from both civilian and military agencies to develop proactive strategies for business process analytics, real-time integration, and cost-effective IT alignment with agency mission, to name a few of the summit’s agenda goals.
Thomas Sasala, who recently made the Federal 100 Award’s list, will be participating inthe closing panel titled “Visualizing Agency Modernization: From People to Process to Technology”. Mr. Sasala, the Chief Technologist Officer for the U.S. Army Information Technology Agency (ITA), has had an extensive career that extends into both the private and public sectors.
In his current role as Chief Technologist Officer for Army, Mr. Sasala is responsible for launching and overseeing the technical direction of the U.S. Army. In past positions, Mr. Sasala has worked with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), the Defense Security Service, and the U.S. Navy.
Recognized for his commitment to IT innovation, Mr. Sasala was interviewed by Amber Corrin of the Federal Times. During the interview, he discussed his decision to champion a virtualized desktop infrastructure (VDI) program. The program has seen great success thus far; originally scaled for 2,000 desktops in the pilot program, the current demand has exceeded 20,000 desktops with interest to extend VDI capabilities throughout the Pentagon’s more than 50,000 desktops.
In February, Mr. Sasala spoke on a panel at Fed Summits’- Federal Mobile Computing Summit about the state of federal mobility. For Sasala and panelist cohorts, the biggest story for federal agencies in the mobility sector was on the impact FITARA will have on adoption of mobility solutions, along with mobile device management challenges and mobile security.
At the ModernGOV Summit, Mr. Sasala will participate in the closing panel alongside Joe Hungate, Deputy Chief Financial Officer, Department of Housing and Urban Development and Francisco Salguero, Chief Information Officer, Rural Development, Department of Agriculture. Showcasing perspectives and strategies from both the civilian and defense sides of government, the session moderated by Chris Dorebek (DorobeckINSIDER) is sure to offer a lively discussion, not to be missed.
Other notable government and industry IT leaders speakers who will be participating in the ModernGOV summit include Steven Cooper, the Chief Information Officer for the Department of Commerce; Tod Weber, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Software AG Government Solutions; and Dr. Barry West, Chief Information Officer & Chief Privacy Officer, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
